STEPHEN A. SMITH
From the Court to the TV screen, Stephen A. Smith has made his mark on and off the court. Some love him, some despise him, but many know him from being a famous commentator on the ESPN sports network. He's all over the big screen, but comes from a small city in New York city. Raised in queens, he traveled to North Carolina where he had hopes in being a hoop star. His dreams came to halt when he injured his knee and was not able play again. As a, student, he had his education to fall back on and began to develop a career in writing, where he worked for several news journals around Winston Salem . From there, he diligently worked for several sports news articles, radio stations, and even starring in his own sitcom. It wasn't until he was offered a position at ESPN, when his career began to take flight. Since becoming a host on their show, First Take, he has starred several, TV shows, movies, and radio stations.

His Impact
When most people think of influences in STEM, they think of doctors, teachers, mathematicians, or scientists. Although Stephen A. Smith is neither of these things, his impact in STEM is unique. Obtaining a Bachelors degree in mass communication, Smith used his voice and various technology such as radio, TV, and more to let his voice be heard. With his success, he used his platform to give back to his community. In 2016, Smith attended a Raising Dollars for Scholars brunch that was intended for raising money so that student athletes had scholarships to attend Winston Salem State University. Although the target amount was $40, 000, Smith managed to help raise $33,000 for the occasion. In addition, he vouched to date 250,000 donation to WSSU over the span of 5 years.
