Animals evolve through their lifespan through adaptation in order to live and survive. Animals adapt in two ways: physically and behaviorally.

Physical Adaptations are body structures that allow an animal to find and consume food, defend themselves, and to reproduce. Physical adaptations help an animal survive in its environment.

Types of Physical Adaptations

  • camouflage-use of color to blend in with a surrounding

  • mimicry-looking or sounding like another organism

  • chemical defenses- use of chemicals such as venom, in or spray

  • body covering and parts- use of claws, beaks, feet, skulls, teeth
