During the biology seminar course, I had the privilege of researching and designing my own experiment that was targeted to a current problem. Neonatal Abstinence syndrome (NAS) common condition that affects many babies worldwide, as well as in the Winston Salem area. NAS is a condition in which the infants experience withdrawal after being born from exposure to opioid drugs during pregnancy, due to maternal abuse. This topic intrigued my interest because I love children and aspire to work with children in the medical field. For this assignment, I researched the topic, explored current treatments for the condition, and constructed my own experimental plan to treat the condition in ways that have not been done.
