NEONATAL ABSTINENCE SYNDROME
Bio 4276: Biology Seminar
During the biology seminar course, I had the privilege of researching and designing my own experiment that was targeted to a current problem. Neonatal Abstinence syndrome (NAS) common condition that affects many babies worldwide, as well as in the Winston Salem area. NAS is a condition in which the infants experience withdrawal after being born from exposure to opioid drugs during pregnancy, due to maternal abuse. This topic intrigued my interest because I love children and aspire to work with children in the medical field. For this assignment, I researched the topic, explored current treatments for the condition, and constructed my own experimental plan to treat the condition in ways that have not been done. Here is a sample of the introduction to my research paper. To learn more, download the document.
The Autonomic Nervous System
Bio 4352: Medical Physiology and Pharmacology
While taking medical physiology and pharmacology, I learned about pharmaceutical drugs in relation to the body in terms of metabolism, distribution, metabolism and excretion. In this course, the physiology, pharmacology and disease processes one molecular and cellular level were also discussed. In this paper, I explained the relation and importance of the bodies system, autonomic nervous system, and how the body responds to disease and drugs using the two divisions within the autonomic system.
