Reflection

Cancer, a word that frightens most when attending yearly checkup, doctors’ visits, or examinations. Never in a million years did I think I would have a person connection with cancer until we took my grandad to the doctor for what we though was a simple cold. Upon the visit, we learned that not only did he have walking pneumonia, but he was suffering from stage 4 colon cancer. Prior to taking BIO 4310, I had a negative connotation with cancer. Cancer was a word that was tied to grief, pain, misunderstanding. After taking this course, not only have I learned more about these group of disease as a whole, I learned the different agents that cause cancer that I may be exposing myself to. There are several different factors such as environmental, hereditary, and even something as simple as diet that can aid in the development of cancer. Despite my thoughts about cancer, seeing my grandad suffer from one of many forms of cancer made me want to take this course to not only understand the disease that put him to rest, but also to become more knowledge and aware to educate myself and my family.
